Paul:
A Musical Journey |
Good Friday,
April 14 - Akron Civic Theatre |
The
Apostle Paul’s story comes to life through a new Broadway-style
musical, Paul: a Musical Journey. With music
and lyrics by Akron native Charles Myricks, Jr., the inspirational
musical blends Gospel, R&B and Jazz to deliver a powerful
story of transformation, reconciliation and hope.
Taken directly from the New Testament, Paul: A Musical
Journey focuses on one of the original founders of Christianity
- the Apostle Paul. Through 24 original songs ranging from
tender ballads to soaring gospel, the audience is taken on
a journey of Paul’s lifelong transformation from murderer
to martyr, culminating with his conversion on the road to Damascus.
Akron native Myricks spins Paul’s tale in a harmonious
celebration of faith and inspiring testimony of love, understanding,
humility and forgiveness. The musical’s cast features
both vocalist and musicians from the region, including members
of Myricks’ gospel group Divine Hope. Divine
Hope is a leading gospel group in Akron and throughout
the region. A winner of the 1992 National New Artist Search, Divine
Hope was featured in the original Gospel Meets Symphony concerts
in Akron.
