The campus-wide speaker series, The University of Akron Forum is in its tenth year. Supported by the Office of the President and the Office of the Senior Vice President and Provost, the Forum and the John S. Knight Lecture bring a series of major speakers to campus each season so that The University of Akron can better serve its campus community and the people of Northeast Ohio. Coordinated with each event in the Forum series will be a variety of campus lectures, discussions and workshops to broaden and deepen the campus learning environment. Gates, Jr. is Chairman of the Afro-American Studies program
and professor at Harvard University. Dr. Gates is the

of the African World, staff writer for The New Yorker
and co-editor of Transitions magazine.
